Liu Dao’s New Show, The Cat that Eats Diodes, Opens Saturday Oct 27th!

Liu Dao premieres a barking, hissing, meowing, gulping menagerie at island6 Shanghai this Saturday Oct 27th from 5-8pm. Our baby sister gallery in Hong Kong follows with a sequel the next Saturday Nov 3rd.

“The Cat that Eats Diodes celebrates the art collective’s six-year love affair with all that resonate with electricity and life. From animated goldfish to lasercut trees, the story of our world is retold in Technicolour glory through LED, video, photography and contemporary sculpture. Re-appropriating iconic scenes from Shanghai and Hong Kong, Liu Dao brings together the essence of two metropolises that are impelled by technology, but inspired by life.

Liu Dao’s 50th in-house show at island6 Shanghai explores issues of reality, illusion, representation and identity through multimedia artworks and installations. “

Come by on Saturday for a good ole bit of animal love, digitized in dozens of blinking, sparkling and glittering diodes. Pet the pooch, feed the fish, stroke the kitty – and marvel at the liveliness and vivacity of these eager little critters, shining through their electronic interfaces. Their oh-so-appealing eyes beg us all to reconsider, just for a moment, our collective construction of reality, representation and illusion.
