I am so excited that it is getting close to time for me to return to Hong Kong. It just seems too long since I have been there. I told Jason (you know that wonderful artist and my producer on my workshops) the other day as we were skyping to plan the workshop schedule that I know it is close to when I leave for Hong Kong since I start dreaming about the workshops. Sounds a bit crazy maybe but that is what happens to me when I am excited about the work ahead. I hope you all feel that way about your work as well.
As all of you artists know so much of the creative preparation for each project starts so much sooner than most people realize. Most people don't realize all the preparation that goes into each performance. And hey they are not suppose to! It is suppose to look natural and easy and most of all believe but all of you who are performers know that it is not easy. That's why I use the symbol of the iceberg. The audience sees the tip of the iceberg. The performer has to prepare the 90% of the iceberg unseen under the water.
Well that is the part that we work on in workshops, in practice, in rehearsal, in research. My goal is to bring each time I come to teach in Hong Kong more ways, techniques, styles, tricks, ways to prepare your material. In acting, in writing, in performing, in singing, in dancing, in all the arts. We gather to work on what happens behind closed doors.
I look forward to seeing all of you in a few weeks. I hope that you will come take one of the scheduled workshops and add to your arsenal of techniques. We all keep learning and that is what make the life ahead so exciting and something we all look forward to.
For those of you that have been in my workshops before, I will of course be bringing new scenes and exercises. This time I want to address the use of music in your preparation. I think you will find this an exiciting way to prepare for your roles.
