So this weekend was theater weekend for me.
Saturday night I was invited to hear a new piece at The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Project. this is like a festival of theater starting in the morning and going into the evening. I saw "The Girl Who Would Be King." It was a staged reading done by some wonderful actors. The piece certainly has potential for regional theaters. I especially like Ann Ryerson as the storyteller, Barry Saltzman as the hard of hearing servant (hilarious), and Tara Samuel in the lead role as Basil. Everyone in the show were good but they were standouts for me.
One Sunday I was invited to the opening of The Belle of Amherst at the Actors Forum Theatre starring Kate Randolph Burns. Ms. Burns was wonderful as Emily Dickinson and the joy of the words of Emiyl Dickinson proved to be a very special event. If you want to remember how wonderful words are go see The Belle of Amherst.
I hope that theater energies you as much as it does me.
