After waiting for months, I finally held my surf contest over the New Year's holiday weekend. What a great last minute call! A lot of people were already busy with NYE plans, but we jam packed a small bus full of people, dj equipment, booze, and headed to the beach in time to set up for New Years Eve. After drinking, dancing, mixing, and stumbling until 3AM, we crashed and woke up for a full day of surfing on the first day of 2010. With a free flow of beer, tunes on the beach all day, plenty of waves and wipeouts, and everyone in good spirits, it was a great way to start the year. Of all the events I've done, this was my favorite. It could have had more people, and the waves could have been bigger, but I don't think we could have had much more fun. Here's a few shots:
Yolanda, one of a few cool kids running around all weekend
Jamon, taking home the prize for best wipeout
Surf supporters rocking their nice new Bruce Lee surf shirts
David Curtain, winner of the 2009 China Surf Open. It was a close heat between him and Richard Ciesco.
Giving the prize to Mirko of Great Spirit for best sponsor
Shark William, one of the Chinese competitors and finalists
Thoroughly enjoying talking smack on the mic and commentating the contest
Starr of Canada taking home 1st place in the women's division
Thanks to Mirko and Great Spirit for the support, Tiger for the beer, Rustico for the food and coffee, DJ Farm for the sound system hookup, Dolphin Bay for the location, Bosh for the prize board donations, and everybody else who came and made it what it was!

Stay tuned for the 2010 Shenzhen Surf Jam! I'm gonna try to put together an all weekend warm weather affair of surf, sun, booze, music, and more, coming this spring!
