Guo Da Li

Hi peeps, just had a very long and tiring day yesterday. Had Guo Da Li. I didn't know wat was that until the time called for it. Basically the guy's side (traditionally with the mei2 puo2/'matchmaker') will come to the gal's side with bethrothal gifts. Not sure but i heard the gal's not supposed to be at home or must hide in her room as the parents and the guys' side are exchanging gifts. Is it true?

Anyway i was bathing when it took place, then went to my room and change...and they were done pretty fast. Mr Cloudz7 with his mum and his Xiao3 Gu1 (youngest aunt) came with a tray of oranges, 4 dian3 jin1 (Jewellery for the bride to be: mine was bracelet, earrings, ring, necklace that my dad asked me to choose last year during the Great Jewellery Festival 50% off. I chose a blue sapphire set (unlike the common gold or diamond) from Citigems. My dad was pretty smart to advise me, coz he said i wouldn't like to wear the traditional yellow gold :P); 2 cognac, 2 almond roca sweets, and a red packet token of $3888, which my mum returned half the amount back, and yes the Guo Da Li Cupcakes (highlight). I'd post the photos up later on...My parents reciprocated by giving back 2 boxes out of 20 boxes of cupcakes, gave oranges and orange juices, and they specially bought 2 shirts, 1 set of cuff links, 2 ties, a belt and a tie pin for my fiance. So it was done pretty quickly without the traditional stuff like spit basin and weird stuff :P

So we adjourn to Thaipan restaurant at our neighbour condo, Mandarin Gardens. Over ordered lots of food. I LOVED the butter prawns (rocks!), the coffee pork ribs were surprisingly tender, the hae3 zhor4 (Hokkien name of fried prawn rolls), fish, pork trotters which i didn't eat much, fish maw with crabmeat soup, prosperous (fu4 gui4 ji1) chicken, can't remember wat else :P and i washed them down with my refreshing lime juice. Lunch was great but heavy :PP Over-ate again...hope can still fit in my gowns wahaha.

After lunch, we drove home and i went up again to bring down 2 invitation cards, then my dad and i set off to give out the cupcakes. However he's going Macau this coming Mon hence had to collect his passport. Parking was horrendous. Was very crowded on a Friday and the inspectors were busy booking cars without coupons....After waiting a long while, he finally got back. And we started our journey for the cupcakes distribution. Went to Uncle Pete's house (National day pic in previous blog), dropped Aunt Alice's card and cake also, Aunt Dolly's-left with the maid, aunt mabel, 6th grand aunt, Aunt Annie's and left Aunt Lily's with her, 5th grand uncle with the maid, and my long ago piano teacher. My previous Maths tutor was not around, he taught both of my brothers as well....have to say both of my teachers are very good teachers. One helped in my musical qualifications and career, the other in my academic to the top 5 junior colleges in S'pore.

When i met my piano teacher after a very long time...we were very happy to see each other, kind of like a re-union. She said she'd always remember Joanna Yang, guess i was one or was her best student she had :p guess becoz i got straight distinctions in my practical exams except grade 4 which i skipped. Told her i followed her footsteps in the end and went to her ex-company, also teaching private as well like her. She started giving me advice and information on teaching, and even gave me an early wedding ang pow (red packet)!!! She said she scared she'd forget....tats unusual, since ppl usually drop ang pows in the boxes at weddings. Threatening to rain, my dad waiting in the car downstairs called me twice to hurry me to go back.

Went home to take a short nap...concussed...before that called my fiance to plan the 2nd half of giving out cakes....tiring...and i had classes somemore, luckily 1 make up class only from 715-8pm before going to my church to give to the priest presiding my wedding: Father Patrick Goh who's quite humourous at times despite his outer stern demeanour. He's the parish priest, heard 3rd in power in Singapore churches. Then went to my Godma's place very nearby. Climbed up 4 storeys and down. Then rushed to Orchard Cuscaden Four Seasons Apartment where Aunt Veronica and my cousins Mae and Evelyn stayed. Mae's 2 daughters are my flower girls. And Aunt Veronica showed me a lace frock she's sewing for them!! I tot they bought the white dresses already...guess they have high stds...also saw uncle pete's 2nd son who's learning cooking from them, with his gf. Rushed down, and finally to our last stop, Aunt Felice's place which is near my fiance's place. We stayed there the longest, drank, spoke, saw her beautiful grand daughters photos (staying at UK), her hubby Uncle Andrew called her when he reached Beijing from Japan. So sweet the way they spoke. And Aunt Felice showed me a new game called Pylos-whereby your ball piece must be at the top of the pyramid before u win. And she gave us a new set!

So tired...and when i reached home, my church friend Angie invited me to Facebook. And i started on Facebook. Luckily for her invite, i remembered her birthday!!! IT was 1145pm about to end the day....my goodness, coz of my Guo Da Li, almost forgot to sms her :PP

Anyway before the whole day's event, had a very upset incident with a family member, but will not divulge details...but i was so angry that i cried and undertook desperate measures in attempt to correct the situation, purposely created to upset me. I'd lock my room up whenever im at my fiance's place from now onwards.

Okie, pictures will be posted later on...tonight going out with my fellow hens and some roosters/cocks haha. Supposed to be a hen's night, but i guess becoz we are "Guai1" or innocent ppl, my guess is we wun get wild at all hahahha....cya will update more~muaks ;)
