After the successful digital release of her Mandarin album in China, and gaining the full support of fans, singer Karen Mok who is also fluent in 5 languages, created a wireless music platform that allowed fans in China to legally download her songs, which is a first of its kind for digital music in Asia. This year, internationally recognized mobile phone maker, Nokia, especially invited Karen to be a special guest at the Nokia New Music Platform Initiating Ceremony. Furthermore, Karen was the only Asian artist at the event. During the music summit, she sat on the stage alongside representatives from some of the world’s greatest digital music and record companies, and with her fluent English, she discussed the current progress of music and the future trends of digital music.

Karen expressed how honored she was to be chosen as a representative of all Asian artists at the music summit. The digital release of her Mandarin album last year was the first of its kind in China, allowing fans to legally download songs through an accessible channel, and created a new way of distributing songs. This new way of distributing music has been found to be more convenient that releasing a physical album. Friends and fans are able to download the latest music with just a mobile phone, and it’s fast. This is certainly exciting news for all singers and music makers. Furthermore, Karen commented how fortunate she was to be with some of the world’s most influential figures in the music industry, discussing the impact and trends of music at the music summit. Karen also unreservedly expressed her views on how the future of music will mainly be distributed in this way. Not only does Nokia provide a music platform with the greatest range of music where users can legally download the newest songs for free, they’ve also created a platform where registers users from overseas can access Chinese music. This is a big step towards promoting Chinese music worldwide.

A music concert was held after the music summit and Karen was the first to perform for the evening, singing two up-beat songs as the opening guest performer, arousing the audience creating an ecstatic atmosphere. This was the first time Karen performed on stage in front of influential representatives from foreign music companies, and her performance left them a memorable and lasting impression. Other artists who also performed during the evening included Khalil Fong Da-Tung, Jam Xiao Jing-Teng, Sodagreen and others, hoping to gather some of Asia’s most elite music performers to work together and promote the new direction of music distribution.
