Need advice to deal with a VERY RUDE neighbor!

Hey guys, I think I need some advice from you to deal with a very rude neighbor!

Ok, so the story goes like this: This very rude white guy moved in a while ago and he has an old pickup truck, three weeks ago, he parked the truck right in front of my house and then never moved the car (it is still there now). and he actually lived a few houses from mine and there are lots of other street parking space next to his house.

since my house doesn't have a garage and my family has two cars, the way he parked greatly inconvenience us, especially when we have things to load or unload from the car. also, since his car is there blocking the curb, when the monthly street sweeping car arrives, it can't clean the portion of the street in front of my house.

so i wrote a short note asking him to park on the other side of the street if he needs to park for such a long period of time (there is no house on the other side of the street, it is an abandoned grassland and there is no parking restriction there), and tell him that the street cant be cleaned during the street sweeping day if he parks there...

i placed the note on his windshield and then a week passed and the note was still there. then today when i came home, i found the note was torn and thrown back to my frontyard, and the car remained there.

i have been living in that neighborhood for a long time and i have never encountered such rude scumbag. i did call the police before but somehow they said it takes days for them to come take a look. but even so, i don't think much can be done! also my family is afraid that this kind of rude guy will retaliate (by vandalizing my property or whatever) if the police actually interferes or issues him warning.

What should i do????? please give some advice!!!

thanks!

Ah you got yourself some fine douchebag in your neighbourhood it seems. I don't think police can do much, and the guy will most likely retaliate. He sounds like the usual 'everybody's wrong but me' type, just like pretty much every owner of old pick up trucks I've met in my life. Whatever you do, he'll always have to be the alpha male even if that means breaking things around your place.

update is that the police just came and left a note on his car (they put it on the back of his car instead of on the windshield though), basically it says the car violates the city municipal code for parking on the street for more than 72 hours, and it will be towed away in 72 hours if it is not moved. i guess it is no problem the car will be moved, but i am just afraid of the retaliation afterward, coz if the car is towed, he needs to pay for it to get it back...

yeah i would have suggested first looking into the parking laws there... in Berkeley they go down the street and ticket or tow people on street sweeping days. otherwise, if there's no laws applicapble you'd just asking him to do it because its the nice thing to do, which obviously he has no interest in... :-P

update: the police issued warning works, the car moved. but we still need to wait and see if anything will happen later...
