9/9 is one of the five seasonal festivals in Japan called the “Chrysanthemum Festival”. In the Heian period, people celebrated to remove evil spirits and pray for longevity by drinking Kikuka-shu. It’s said that good luck will come to you by drinking sake in a new sake-cup on this day.
