Waiting for Hanna

I'm here in central North Carolina awaiting Tropical Storm Hanna.  Although I am 100 miles inland, we still have a number of weather warnings directly as a result of this tropical storm.  We have a flash flood watch in effect until this time tomorrow night with 3-5 inches of rain currently forecast (and this could go as high as 10 inches) and a high wind warning, which could knock down trees that will then take out power lines.  The outer rain bands of Hanna began to effect this area earlier this afternoon.  A very heavy rain band is about 40 miles southeast of here and appears to be moving this way.  It looks like it will hit in a few hours.  The wind should pick up at the same time.  The center of the storm circulation is scheduled to make landfall sometime in the early morning about 120 miles from here.  It always surprises me how extensive these storms are.

Ohm, I'm not going outside in the wind and rain to try and take pics. Remember, I'm no photographer. :-) So far (8:30 a.m.), it doesn't seem too bad. There are scattered power outages in the area, some trees and limbs down, closing a few roads, but nothing widespread. I slept like the dead last night, so I don't know how hard it rained. It is rainy and windy right at the moment, but they think by mid-day the worst will be over and by tonight, we could have clearing (about the time the system will move into the NYC area). We have definitely seen worse. There is some localized flash flooding, but I'm on high ground here, so that is never a concern at my house. Get this, we are supposed to go to a party at a house Mark is building today from 12-3. The party is on (unless they lost power) and the weather may have improved enough by then to go! It also looks like we dodged the bullet on Ike, though I wish I could say the same for the Gulf coast. That is one big and nasty hurricane (Cat 3). Hanna was a measly tropical storm. There is no comparison.
