So, it has been quite a while (at least a year, if not longer) since I have last seen Beaver. And it has been even longer (4 – 5 years) since I’ve seen his wife, Gemma. The last time I saw them their daughter was just about 1 year old … now she’s 6.
I saw Beaver at the alivenotdead.com/tom.com party, but that wasn’t really much of a chance to talk and visit, so before they took off for a vacation in Hawaii (his first in 2 years!) I took a cab over to their home to say hi.
It was great to see Gemma and their kids again (they have 2 now). Nothing makes you feel old like a growing child. (Ironically, nothing makes you feel quite as young, either.)
After about an hour hanging out I took off to meet up for dinner with Wu Di and Shahaub. A bunch of friends also joined in including a bunch of the alivenotdead.com guys. Boon, Olivier and Dan came after a while to join us (along with Boon’s friend Johnny). Naturally we all ate at Homely Roast Duck, because that is how I hang. Here are a few pictures …

Before and After …
After a while we were also joined by Stephen, Raffi, Wing and a bunch of people I didn’t know.
After the duck Shahaub and I had the need for a massage. I had been in Beijing for a whole 5 days and hadn’t gotten one yet! So he, myself, Mio and Dan walked around the corner to Dragon Foot Club and got our 90RMB special on. It felt pretty good. Shahaub enjoyed himself and Mio slept …
While we were at the massage I kept getting calls from Beaver, Wu Di, et al. asking me to come out and meet up with them at some club or something. So after we were done the four of us piled in a cab and went out to where they were all hanging out. Terence and Patrick (and a bunch more guys I didn’t know) were there as well. It was a good opportunity to connect and chat with Pat and T too, but after about an hour I was pretty beat so Shahaub and I said our farewells and caught a cab back to Shi Cha Hai.
I have decided that it will probably be one of only 2 or 3 times I go out at night while I’m here. My temperament just isn’t up for stuff like that anymore. It is fun once and a while, and I had a wonderful time connecting with my friends, but I’m definitely a home-body at heart.
