I arrived in Beijing last Tues, the 27th and since then my days have been filled with activity. I have never really had a chance to enjoy Beijing. The last time I spent a long time in this city was when I was 14. My dad took my sister, Jen, Harry, and me one summer for an entire month. In this month, we were mainly there to learn. During that time I remember I had swimming, Chinese dance, volleyball, piano, and mandarin classes...so, my outlook on Beijing was much different back then.
You have a new take on a city like Beijing…having friends already and being an adult. I spent the first night meeting up with my friends from Norway who live in Beijing…as well as my 2 cousins, Lawrence and Martin. We watched Lawrence play at a gig in this club that had a weird set up and was extremely hot. Martin asked one of the workers if they had air con and the guy nodded his head…then when he asked if it was turned on….he shook his head…then when he asked “can you turn it on?” he shook his head again…yes, Beijing is filled with very hospitable people (sarcasim)….makes you feel proud to be Chinese….Lawrence was in Beijing playing at the Jazz Festival that is held only once a year. So, the Hilton was filled with musicians from all over the world. It was pretty cool! I’m hoping to visit a few jazz clubs on my nights off from shooting…luckily, I’ve met a few great musicians in the city….it will definitely help me relax on my days off.
So…my action packed days started off with a meeting with the directors and some of the cast and crew. It looks like I’ll be working with some cool people. My new assistant, Guo Guo is a very cute little girl and we hit it off on the first day that we met. My new China manager, Linda…is also way cool. I have been spending most of my days with the two of them….going for massages, facials, shopping, eating, yoga, badminton…you name it! …all the necessary things to do…we have done it! I almost feel like I have been on vacation for the past few days. I’ve gone and explored the nightlife with my Euro buddies…and they’ve called out their hot friends to go dancing with us. It’s been pretty fun so far….
Now, I’m off to Shanghai to take care of some things as well as spend some time with my family…esp Lawrence’s little twins….when I get back to Beijing it will almost be time for me start shooting. During this time, I’ll have to start learning my lines and memorizing lyrics…..I’m going to attempt to do some video blogging while I’m shooting this movie. By the way, the name of my musical movie is called “Dance For Love”….stay tuned!
