chairty for Lifeline Express

On Wednesday, I took a flight to Kumming and then we went by car for about 2 hrs to Yunnan.  It is a beautiful city in China and the air is just amazing!  The weather there is also very nice...cool in the morning and night..and sunny yet breezy in the afternoon.  I was there for a charity called Lifeline Express.  This year, I am their ambassador.  Basically, this charity raises money to help those less fortunate who can't afford cataract surgery. The surgery cost about $3,000 RMB per eye and these people only make about $1,000 an ENTIRE YEAR!

Most of the patients are the elders, however, there are also cases with young children who are born without the ability to see...or in one of the cases, he was playing around and something went in his eye.  Can you imagine growing up without being able to see?  And then 9 yrs later...you can see yourself, your parents, the color of the trees for the first time?  It was unbelievable to hear the stories that these patients had to tell. One of them, an elderly woman, wanted to be able to see again so that she could wash vegetables and cook for her husband...she also really wanted to watch TV again!  hahaha..she was so cute!  Having healthy eyes to go on with our daily lives seems like such a small thing that we never really think about. But, to these people....it's such a big deal because they can't do the simple things in their lives that makes their life what it is....if that makes any sense.

They were all so appreciative towards us...it was very very touching.  I was able to see the procedures of the surgery..but, truthfully, I had to look away most of the time.....it takes less than 30 min to do each patient!  And there are only 2 doctors handeling the surgeries..doing more than 1000 each day!  Bless their souls!  It's an interesting concept to have this train travel around and have stop points to pick up the patients....do their jobs...and move on to the next city..very clever indeed!

果真是一個最慈悲的舉動,我也因此行長了智慧! this is the elderly woman who couldn't wash her vegetables...she was very very cute

during the lunch with the government, there was some live entertainment...and they had to sing to each of us asking us to drink...there's me with my sour milk..hahahaha

this is how the train looks like

this is the 9 yr old girl who was born blind and her father
