"I, Ching" the Musical

I'm currently in rehearsals for a new musical (in English!!!)  called "I, Ching", written by Cecile Tang and music by Lowell Lo and other composers.  The director is Jacob Yu and other cast members include Rick Lau as "CQ", Boon Ho as "Kang" and Samuel Yau as "Yao".  It's basically a story about the Cultural Revolution and the main cast consists of the "Gang of Four". If you don't know what I'm talking about, never fear!!!  As a Chinese American, (ABC) I too was clueless of this very significant part of Chinese history. I'd say that being a part of this project has given me a paid lesson on Chinese History 101! Anyways...I am playing the part of Madame Mao.  So, this is probably the most challenging role I've ever had to play.  And, it has been very tiring even during rehearsals to play this role because requires a LOT of my energy.  Rehearsals are going very well.  We are rehearsing 5 days a week in Hong Kong up until the end of August and then we'll all be flying to LA to perform the shows.  We perform over the weekend of Sept 14th at the "Mission House Theatre" in San Gabriel and then again for the foll0wing weekend of the 21st at "The Broad Theatre" in Santa Monica.  I'm the most excited since I'm from LA and a lot of my friends and family who live in LA can come watch me perform for the first time.  AND, my sister Jen (who lives in Alameda, CA) is in the chorus for the show so she's staying in HK with me during the rehearsal period.  It's been nice having her there at rehearsals and spending time with her.  :)  More to come on the musical and hopefully some videos, photos, and promo posters.  Photo of me as "Lan Ping", the name that Madame Mao used during her younger years when she was an actress in Shanghai.  This is taken at rehearsals for one of the numbers called "New Age Woman".  This is when my name is Comrade Jiang Ching.  From left to right:  Annie, Fiona, Me, Jen
