Micro Galleries reclaims disused and forgotten spaces and reactivates them as tiny galleries that are free and accessible to the local community to instigate positive social change.
Micro Galleries is a free and accessible global arts project that reclaims disused and forgotten public spaces in communities and reactivates them as public, open-air galleries for the local community. Building cultural and social capital within these communities, Micro Galleries brings together international and local artists to start a community-based cross-cultural dialogue with the intention to instigate positive social change.
Micro Galleries has a highly-skilled team based across Hong Kong, Indonesia, Germany and Australia that work together to bring international and local artworks onto the streets of places that rarely experience art and its benefits.
Micro Galleries features work that challenges preconceived ideas, blurs the line between street art and fine art, and aims to help change the way we see the world, our environment and our community - even for a micro moment.
Artists from around the world have donated their work and time to be installed in communities throughout the world.
Started in 2013 by Asia-based Australian Artistic Director Kat Roma Greer as a work commissioned by Radical Resilience Week HK, it has had two installations in Hong Kong (April, 2013 and December, 2013), one in South Africa (April, 2015), one in Sanur, Bali (July, 2015) and two in Australia (October, 2014 and May, 2015).
Future scheduled Micro Galleries: • Badung Market area, Denpasar, Bali – 2-16 October, 2015 • Gratz, Austria – July, 2016 • Cape Town, South Africa - 2017
