Just before I flew to the UK, i got the news that 'The Bodyguard: A New Begining' which i produced for director Cheung Chee-keong in Hong Kong & the UK, will be getting a North American release from Lionsgate in September 2010.
The film stars Vincent Sze, Richard ng, Cary Tagawa, Carl ng, Stephanie Langton, Mark Strange, Nathan Lewis, James Ha, and features a cameo appearence by the great Shing Fui-on, who sadly passed away last week. (Shing Fui-on had been a friend for several years and had agreed to do the movie as a favour, and it was as ever a pleasure to work with him. he was a character on and off screen, and will be missed)
I will say that it was a hard shoot at times, we didnt have the biggest budget and its amazing the way that so many people involved went above and beyond the call of duty on the project, while also disappointing to note how a few people who were given an opportunity didnt deliver and ironically enough only hurt themselves with their behaviour. I'm proud of what we did with the film and am not afraid to say it has its faults, but i've seen a hell of a lot of films with far bigger budgets, lengthier production schedules and supposedly more experienced crew that are far less enjoyable.
A big thanks again to all the cast and crew, it was hard work, but a great experience and much more to come.
