A collection of five (5) local shorts (Out of Competition) that best reflect the direction of the local film industry, taste of regular cinema goers plus the changing demographic and lifetyle patterns of our population. Specially curated by Singapore Polytechnic for shnit’s debut festival here.
All directors will be in attendance for a Q&A session with the audience. The session will be moderated by Ramasamy Rajesree, Guest Curator – Sinema Showoff! Series.
This is a one-time ticketed event (paid programming) aimed at providing local short films an opportunity to screen at an international festival and mainstream cinema facility to reach out to wider audiences. Director’s Bio – Kelvin Sng: Kelvin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He trained as a teacher with the National Institute of Education (NIE) and taught for three (3) years. After leaving the teaching profession he went on to do an Advanced Diploma in Film Production (Directing) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a scholarship from Media Development Authority (MDA).
Kelvin is Managing Director for Kelvin Sng Productions Pte Ltd which also does artiste management and other productions such as music videos and commercials. Apart from that Kelvin is also Programme Director for both Mastereign Media Arts Pte Ltd and Epitomedia Pte Ltd, which run media- related education programmes for primary / secondary and junior colleges in Singapore.

Director’s Bio – Koo Chia Meng: Koo Chia Meng holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is currently working as a freelance video artist and multi-media designer.

Romantic comedy with four (4) LOVE stories featuring the same pair of lovers in the style of Hollywood, Bollywood, Korean & Malay film genres.
The seasoned cast, cinematography, lighting, effects, make-up, music and unique English dialogue delivery add-up to tickle your bone.

Directors Bio - Suffian Zain: Suffian Zainuddin graduated from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Commerce. He works full-time at Reuters Singapore (designation) and is one of the two co-founders of Singapore Malay Film Society (SMFS).
Suffian runs a passionate “side business”, Smartmat Media, providing film, photo and scrapbook services to wedding couples. His unique service includes producing romantic Bollywood – Korean type music videos featuring couples.

Director’s Bio – Uta Arning: Uta Arning grew up in industrial town of Northrheinwestphalia, Germany. This inspired her to shoot THE PERFECT WOMAN against the backdrop of the Old Ford Factory in Singapore.
Uta studied business administration at Aachen University and Sophia University, Tokyo, and finished with a master’s degree. However, once she received her degree and entered the real world, her passion for film reemerged.
5. DAUGHTERS OF GOD (WORLD PREMIERE)

In Klang, Malaysia, generations of Thirunangais (otherwise known as Indian transsexuals) constructed a temple to worship a Hindu goddess, who was believed to have granted a Thirunangai’s wish.
The documentary contains interviews with some of these transsexuals, who share their thoughts and feelings about undergoing the sex change operations. It is revealed later that some of them have turned to prostitution as they were not able to hold down jobs for long.
Director’s Bio –Anna Karenina Tolentino: Anna Karenina Tolentino recently graduated with a Bachelor of Communication Studies with Honours from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
Originally from the Philippines, Anna is currently working as a producer for MediaCorp’s Channel News Asia.

A Palestine Muslim doctor is confronted with the choice on whether he should save the life of his brother who plans to carry out a suicide bombing.
Director’s Bio – Raihan Harun:
Best known for his short horror film, PONTIANAK, Raihan Harun holds a Diploma in Film, Sound and Video from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He recently obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film & Television) from the Victorian College of the Arts and Music in Melbourne, Australia.
Raihan currently works as a freelance scrīptwriter.

Moderator’s Bio – Ramasamy Rajesree, Guest Curator – Sinema Showoff! Series
Ramasamy Rajesree and her team of student curators have been putting together the monthly Sinema Showoff! series for two (2) seasons at Sinema Old School.
Besides the Sinema Showoff! series Rajesree and her team have also worked for Asian Festival of First Films, Vancouver Singapore Film Festival, Maskara Shorties Film Festival (KL, Malaysia) and most recently ScreenSingapore.
Rajesree is a full-time lecturer with Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Architecture and the Built Environment. She is also an associate faculty member at SIM University (UniSIM).
Prior to her academic appointment she was working at Singapore Sports Council (International Events) and in Indonesia for a Japanese consumer brand.
