It was emptied unexpectedly last night.
Then again, when is it ever expected?
People and others fill this bottle
One grain of black sand at a time.
They enter the bottle without an escape.
Over time, grains and grains of black sand
Stack one on top of the other
Squeezed and packed
As tightly together as possible.
There is no escape.
What is done is done.
It could take days, months, even years
to fill this bottle
But when it is full,
it must be emptied.
The only way to empty it
Is to BURN IT...
BURN IT with the hottest flame you can find.
BURN IT.
BURN IT until the grains and glass
Begin to melt together
And you can no longer protect the bottle
From the grains.
The bottle is finally forced to deal with the grains
All at once.
The bottle feels the largest amount
Of pain and discomfort
when it is melting into the black sand.
This is how it empties.
Something burns it until it doesn't exist anymore.
Then, when no one is looking,
An empty bottle appears again...
And the vicious cycle continues. ©2010 Olivia Thai
