I had the lucky experience today, to ride on the taxi of HK's most senior cab driver (self professed). As we edged through the early rush-hour traffic from North Point to Causeway Bay, Mr. Leung Fai, proudly shared that he was 72 years young, had been driving a taxi for 51 years and the Transport Department had just renewed his driver's license for another three more years ...... it was a bit of an uncanny experience zigzagging across the lanes on the Eastern Corridor, in the back of a cab, with an OAP at the wheel, driving like Ricky Bobby on a caffeine high - totally ruthless! ..... FUN FUN FUN! ..... a lovely chappie ..... look out for taxicab - JV 6148 ...
I've only been away from HK 4 months ..... but, boy do shops turnaround fast in this town! .... wanting to check out some new phone models, I got off the taxi outside the Wellcome shop at JP, planning to visit the relatively new Fortress digital shop (which recently took the place of Chow Sang Sang), .... there i suddenly stood totally disorientated and confused, wondering where in hell was this Fortress shop ... then, I realized it had already gone ..... and now a glam GEOX store was there in its place .... GOOD LUCK GEOX!
A nicer surprise was to find a new creatively positioned Pacific Coffee underneath the Lee Theater escalators .... support the underdog ... power to the original coffee shop chain in HK :o)
Maybe the retail musical chairs is evidence that the whole SAR ecomomy is really on an upward spin (and not just in Finance).... property prices and rent hikes over the past six months certainly seem to support this sentiment .... rentals are probably up 30 -40% since the turn of the year ..... bloody scarey for someone soon to be flat-hunting .....VERY CONCERNED!
