BJIFF to close on a high note

4 March 2012, Beijing –The 2012 Beijing International Film Festival is scheduled to end with two concerts by London’s Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (RPCO) to be held at the National Indoor Stadium on April 27 and 28, according to a spokesperson for the BJIFF. The RPCO will perform selections from film soundtracks.

Founded in 1987, the RPCO is known for its renditions of light classics and popular music. It has provided the soundtrack to Hollywood movies including Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mission Impossible, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and Titanic.

Principal Conductor Michael Sill, associate conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since March 2011 will lead the RPCO which will be accompanied by 24-year-old famed New Zealand soprano, Hayley Westenra.

The closing ceremony is planned to offer an Asian theme and will take advantage of the large venue at the National Indoor Stadium with multi-media installments and a giant screen to accommodate large crowds of participants.
