scrīpt workshop – Focusing on our audience

Polluted on www.Kickstarter.com  http://kck.st/h1r0LT $1,300 to go in this last week to reach our $6,000 goal.

I like to say that that,  of the 20 rules of writing , rule # 1, 7, 13 and 20 are YOU WILL REWRITE!!!   As professional film makers, Judy and I are painfully aware of this.

We think of writers struggling alone to make their masterpieces. With the ability to network, we can be so much more collaborative and increase the chances of making something great. Judy and I assembled some talents at the Shanghai Theater Academy to address the audience focus.

Especially in film making, you need to focus on the audience and film is such a collaborative process. It takes many, many people to make a film. And this begins at the planning phases.

So Kickstarter is a valuable way to meet your audience and get fantastic feedback from the potential audience before you film. Judy and I have been able to take advantage of this through dialog with folk around the world about what they think of the project and their ideas and suggestions.

This has been especially valuable for the director/screenwriter Judy Li. This is a great opportunity for someone from China to have a connection to an international audience and share in their perspective. The experience has been invaluable for us.

But we have also had lots of folks, both local and foreign in Shanghai offer to get involved. We had a meeting with a great mix of folks meet to discuss the scrīpt. In the end, Judy has full artistic control but she was excited to have this amazing opportunity to have so much feedback and input.

At our meeting, we had two young Chinese film makers “Lola” Le Guan and Tuya Xining who gave a great perspective on how young Chinese view the world and their place in it and what they want to see from a film.

We also had some international film makers including French film maker and long time Asia hand Yannick Verry and Chinese Film Professor Gao Xiao Hong.

We have some great input and a whole new slant on a project that will still address the same important themes.

We are all preparing for the next draft of this project. We hope you will follow along and watch the progress.
