In addition to going to Music Matters I was also stoked to make it to the HK art fair the same weekend. This was my second year and it was cool to see over 150 museums showing pieces from around the world one place. It was also great getting close and personal to stuff that was selling for millions of dollars a pop. Craziness. There was a lot of Yoshitomo Nara pieces this year and I was amazed at how big this piece actually was in person. The copy of it I have is the size of a postcard...haThey also had a custom box just like his "A to Z" and "SML" installationsThe giant "Lonesome Puppy" making friends.Nara was there tooPatrick and his favorite piece of the show. This dish had a cool 3D effect and also distorted your voice the closer you got to it. I think he helped sell this piece while explaining it to someone so he deserves a huge commission. Pay up yoMasakatsu Sahie. I have a model kit of one of his orbs but I'm too scared to build it cause I don't want to jack it up. Ai Yamacuchi! The first time I went to the Giant Robot store was to see her show at GRLA. She even signed a card for me and drew a picture on it but I lost it.....aaaahhh!!!Damien Hirst's pickled dove. Julian Opie.Another one of my all time favorites Ryan Mcginness. I wish.....Warhols.Richard Prince. Last time we saw his stuff in person was at the Serpentine gallery in London. DopeFirst time seeing David Choe pieces in the flesh. I'm bummed I didn't get to see his LA installation...it looked insane.Simon Birch represent! Simon just pulled off the biggest art installation ever to take place in HK and it got great reviews and feedback. I'm stoked for him and he deserves a huge holiday after this week. Cruising with Simon and Angie at preview night!
