Last weekend I got to hang out at the Music Matters conference and watch some pretty interesting discussions between some of the biggest promotors, managers, and music companies from around the world. This was my first time at MM and it was cool seeing what people are trying to do to fight poor CD sales. It's an uphill battle but many believe by focusing back on good music while trying to make things more accessible to fans things could get better. Between presentations there were also few artist showcasing their music including Altan Urag, Jully Black, Delhi 2 Dublin, and special guest Jason Mraz. Mega promotors like Bill Silva (Bill Silva Ent) and Neil Warnock (The Agency) were among some of the industry CEOs talking about everything from managing to publishing to digital downloads. Mongolian band Altan Urag were the first band to play mixing their traditional mongolian style singing with metal. The next day they ended up getting signed to BMI. CongratsJason Mraz closed the conference on the second day and payed a bunch of his tunes. He also talked about his music career while sharing stories behind certain hit songs. Pretty cool stuff. I was lucky enough to run into Jason while he was cruising around the first day. I told him how I used to watch him play coffee shops around San Diego during my college days and he asked me about the HK music scene.
