I am going to work on a 2 and 5 year plan.
Today I met up with Laichan, a fashion designer, and he told me has a 12 year plan!!
My immediate plan for the year, is that I should be writing at least 3 new songs a month (1 every 10 days) for practice, and meet up with more people to co-write songs with them. I have Rani and Wenfu on the list so far! Every month, i'll record just one song on average. Then, by September, i'd have at least 20 songs to choose from and at least 12 recordings. Ambitious eh.
Reflecting on the year that has just past, and how my first EP has been received, I realise that the Asian perspective on what music should be is extremely different from the Western POV. I've had many people comment that I should consider switching to Chinese songs. And do covers for my first full length. while one of my other new resolutions is to learn at least 15 new chinese songs in 3 months (i'm SO out of the Chinese scene!) i can't imagine being a singer-songwriter in a language I dont THINK in. But covers wise, i think I have to say that my first full length is probably going to have selected covers... yet i'm hoping to keep it as a majorly originals album...
I finally met someone today with a much more Western POV regarding the music industry, and was so excited after he let me know that he's considering my songs for his feature film. I'm really keen on getting my stuff in flims and generally being exposed on a larger scale than just live performance. Can't say too much yet, but it's definitely going to be a great project for me to get involved in!
On other fronts, having been two weeks at CM-PB i really like the place. also finally meeting up with Orgo on wednesday, so hopefully another gig can be worked on there too!
2011 is looking great already:)
