Oscar recap - my version

I almost never watch the Oscars. It's not so much that I don't enjoy them as it is because I don't own a TV... Anyway, I did happen to see the Oscars this year at someone else's apartment - about a mile from where they were taking place - and saw something awesome.

For those of you who didn't catch it, here is what happened in the Best Original Song category: "Falling Slowly," the spine-meltingly gorgeous torch song from "Once," beat out three heavy-hitters from the uber-brains of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz (two of the greatest musical geniuses in entertainment today), along with some snoozer from the wretched "August Rush" (kind of the anti-"Once"). Watching the two musicians/actors from "Once" not only perform their humble little song in front of a billion people but actually win was just... ^$%@&!!

After Glen Hansard gushed out his acceptance, Marketa Irglova stepped up to the mic, clutching her Oscar, only to get the music played on her and the mic turned off. Everyone's heart sunk. Well, mine did anyway.

But after the commercial break, Jon Stewart brought her back OUT to let her do her acceptance, and with no music, no fanfare, and with everyone watching her, she basically dedicated her win to independent artists all over the world who had nothing more to go on than hope. And that, folks, was the most anything that's ever happened at the Oscars has ever resonated so much with me.

I'm still cheering on the inside...

yes, i loved the movie and song, so I was excited to see them perform, then actually win, and to see her brought out again to give such a great acceptance speech. :) it really made my evening.
