As Etchyand Jun Kunghave pointed out, the MOOV/Converse We Love Live!show was this past weekend, and much ass was kicked, figuratively speaking.
I helped Jun with tech stuff, specifically guitars and general stage management. The show was a lot of fun, because I got to see Dear Jane and Qiu Hong play and got to talk with them.
I also got to invite Mimi Leung to the show and give her a crew pass so she, like me, had the run of the place. As jaded as I can be at times (yes, me), I still enjoy sharing my experiences with people. Not to make them think I'm anyone special, just because it's fun for me to share things I like. And being backstage and hanging out is a lot of fun (at least when you're not busy with stuff).
I can also admit I was glad that she's a girl, because it made me look cool to all and sundry. I'd have given one of my guy friends the hook-up, but it's just not the same.
I even gave Mimi a Junk Unit t-shirt since the one they gave me didn't fit. Neither did any of the Converse swag they were handing out.
I'm used to it.
It's a blast working with Jun because I got to meet and hang out with some of Hong Kong's best musicians. The Junk Unit is anything but. These guys swing hard, and I feel very grateful to have seen the gig.
It was also a great experience because I understand musician humor, and they understand me too, so the entire process of rehearsals, soundcheck and gig was essentially one long joke-telling festival. We all kept each other laughing, and that is often more important than you would think for musicians.
It was a nice feeling for me to be around people with common passions, attitudes, and humor, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly.
Not to mention that I also got to meet Maria Cordero!!!After the show, we went to Joe's Billiards in TST and had a hell of an after-gig party. I'd tell you about it but without a subpoena, I ain't sayin' sh*t about nothin'!!!I got back to my flat at 6:00 AM. That says it all.
As I always say, it was a lot of fun to go to a show and know so many people there, especially from (and huge thanks to) AnD. It's a nice feeling to be known by people who don't run screaming from the room...
I am severelylooking forward to Christmas Eve at Rack's and the New Year's Eve party, as well as Jun's next gig, wherever and whenever that is!
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
