Monday night I cut in the inlays and installed them. It took a long time, and they're not perfect, but I got them done.Small chisels. Patience. Perseverance.
Today I glued the fretboard to the neck. Lots of clamps.
Lots
of clamps.
I needed to modify my approach for the controls because of the carved top. Basically, you have to drill the holes from the top, because the controls have to sit flat on a non-flat surface. I thought of this
slightlytoo late. But using a Dremel tool, I drilled into the wood on the proper angles:
Drilling the volume knob hole
As you can see below, I had already used a forstner bit from the back to make vertical (and incorrect) The correct holes came though in slightly different places. I can still cover them, though.
I think...
Smaller correct hole beneath 'incorrect' (though still usable) hole.
This is not the mess it appears to be.After the correct hole came through, I used a drill bit and the Dremel to open up the space where the volume pot will need to go. I'll clean it up with a router when I get the chance.
After the glue was dry for the fretboard, I added the flame maple binding to the neck. The back of the neck still needs shaping, but at least now it appears pretty much as it is going to look (at least from the front):
It's getting there.
