Even More of Less

Monday, June 21 -

I hit the workshop at 9:00AM. All weekend I was thinking about curves on bodies.

Which is why I left my good camera at home and had to take pictures with my phone...Using a random orbital sander, I carve a curvaceous top onto this guitar body. Watch:

I use pencil to show the places where the 'shelves' are still hiding.

Smooooooooth...

The inside curves were tricky.  Especially since they're smaller than usual and therefore harder to work with.But perseverance and a few tricks made it work. Same thing on this side. Though I did 'discover a hidden 'treasure';

A small dark line, part of an imperfection, showed through once the top was carved (in the top of the middle). Nothing I could do about it, really.

I think it adds character.

I may as well; it ain't going anywhere.

Here's a picture of the neck and tenon clamped and 'nailed' together. It sat all weekend, so I am sure it's a good, strong joint.

I used my laminate router to take away the majority of the inlay holes. I will cut them in with those little chisels, slowly.

I drilled the initial holes for the switch and volume knob.

First mock-up: It looks like a guitar!

Wow, you got to this point in just a few days? That is some fast work. Looking good.

When you're finished, be sure and post a sound file of you playing the instrument. I think everyone following the "making of" would be curious about the sound.
