If I was Chapman To in this photo, I’d have a screwdriver handle in my hand. Wong Cho Lam would have the entire shaft of a 12″screwdriver embedded in his nauseatingly metrosexual skull.
I reallydislike Wong Cho Lam. One of my favorite parts of the New Year comedy 72 Tenants of Prosperitywas watching him get his fey little ass kicked by Linda Chung. Repeatedly. I love that movie for that reason.
Well, that reason and Kate Tsui.
But Wong Cho Lam’s metrosexuality just irritates the living f@#$ out of me.
So it’s difficult to watch his films, because I find him… gross.
All that said, I am a professional (asshole) and so I must fulfill my duty.
I’m glad I did, because I actually liked La Comedie Humaine/人間喜劇. It’s flawed, but funny. It at least takes chances, and for that I can indulge it.
Fiona Sit does a good job at playing a typically infuriating Hong Kong woman whose imperiousness and insecurity take turns whipping her into a frenzy, making her not so much bipolar as wholly unattractive.
That big Area 51 forehead doesn’t help either.
To steal a Mike Epps joke, it’s a five-head. She doesn’t have dreams, she has movies.
Wong Cho Lam is her unfortunate boyfriend, an aspiring scrīptwriter who unknowingly takes in a an ailing Mainland hitman who has nowhere near enough self-consicousness about his body.I’ve seen more of Chapman To than I ever wanted to.
I’m glad I met him before I saw the movie.
It would be hard to describe the plot of this film, and frankly, I don’t want to.
Because I want you to go see it. It deserves your time, attention, and money. It’s not perfect, but it’s more than good enough.
It beats the brake dust off of Flirting Scholar 2, which Chapman laughed at me for watching.
If you like movies, and you love Hong Kong movies, you will like **La Comedie Humaine/人間喜劇.**
*Go watch it!*
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
