Oh Dear Lord this movie was awful.
But it was fantastic.
90 minutes of cinematic train wreck that had me laughing so hard I needed an adult diaper.
Too bad I didn’t have one.
But since we were in the splendor of East Tsim Sha Tsui’s Chinachem Theatre, I doubt anyone noticed.
We were also in the 34 seat (that’s not a typo) House 3, whose screen is not much bigger than my TV.
This film reminded me of Super Typhoon; a movie so wrong and yet so earnestly executed that I couldn’t be angry at it.
Unlike, say, Andrew Lau’s latest film.
Virtual Recall/異空危情 is a 90-minute slide down the quality scale, but an exhilarating one. Because you keep finding yourself shocked at how bad it is, only for the film to go even further down the scale in the following scene.
Virtual Recall/異空危情 is laughably bad in the best way: it makes you laugh.
A lot.
Out loud.
Hysterically.
I don’t want to give anything away about the film, because
A) there’s nothing to give away and
B) I’d be ashamed to offer proof I’ve watched it.
But other people are giving it away free. This film is available for download on the net, and considering it will never see the light of day on DVD, I encourage all of you to watch it.
You will laugh yourselves silly.
And you get to see what is supposed to be Cherrie Ying’s @ss. But its obviously not hers. You do get to see one of Tang Yifei’s nipples though.
Not sure how that managed to happen, but I was grateful.
If this film can serve any useful purpose, it illustrates to a remarkable degree why I don’t try to get a job as a reviewer.
If you would indulge me, please watch Virtual Recall/異空危情 by whatever means necessary.
Then read this review.
It is glaringly obvious that Derek Elley knows not to bite the hand that feeds him, just as it is glaringly obvious to any human being with two brain cells to rub together that Virtual Recall/異空危情 is one of the worst films ever put on video.
But he can’t say that, can he?
I’d much rather toil honestly in obscurity than become a shill.
Besides, on those rare occasions when I do write positive reviews, no one believes me.
Watch Virtual Recall/異空危情. You will enjoy it.
Just not in the way the producers intended.
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
