Someone posted some fan video from the Chilam show I did with Dear Jane.
The end of the Tai Chi song "Red Sports Car" and Beyond's "I Am Anger." Just my luck the video ends right as my solo came up.But no worries; this other video is the Dear Jane song第一個. I reallyenjoy playing these songs (and with these guys), because Dear Jane want to be a rockband, not a pop group. So they want me to play as loud, fast, and mean as I can.
They insisted I wear a sleeveless shirt, to "scare the sh*t out of people!" I was glad I could be of help. The harmony part at the end of the guitar solo cracks me up, because we hit it perfectly, and because we're goofing about it beforehand, and because this video makes me realize what a f@#$ing gorillaI look like next to people I don't even think of as short.
Next Tuesday, MOOV is co-hosting a Band Show featuring Dear Jane. The other host is the School of Journalism and Communication, where I work.
The show is at Chinese University, on the New Asia campus, where I work. The pan-Chinese nature of the lineup is nice and all, but by the same token, "No one comes into our house and pushes us around..." The best rock music has a competitive, confrontational aspect to it.
We intend to be the best rock band in Hong Kong Tuesday. It's our house, motherf@#$er.So next Tuesday, I will teach my last (ever) Media Sex and Violence lecture (on pornography; lots of pictures of Nana), then walk out the door and play guitar in front of my students and (soon to be former) colleagues. I haven't told many of my students (some of whom are inthat promo) that I'm playing with Dear Jane; I figured I'd surprise them.
I haven't told many of my colleagues either, because frankly:
1.) I doubt they'd like the music.
2.) They'll probably get a case of the ass seeing me do something so 'improper.'
Then again, I'm not the one that married my research assistant...
3.) I'm not really interested in their opinion. So why solicit it, implicitly or explicitly?
I do this to have fun. I don't have fun with my colleagues. I work with them.
Hey, I'm a man of principle. And principle is important.Yes, I'm going to wear that shirt. The question is, will I wear the belt buckle?: Come to CUHK next Tuesday and watch me act a fool. At high volume.
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
