Yesterday I was very busy, but thankfully in a positive way.
I went back to the Tom Lee sale in the morning. Found some good books. Not music books, actual books about music. And a cheap pedal, too.
Then I headed to Mong Kok, where I met up with Jason Tobin, who helped me with a translation issue at a machine shop. I am having parts for my guitars custom-made. They are VERY simple parts, so don't think I'm doing anything groundbreaking. But I am not capable of speaking about the requirements is Cantonese. So I was very grateful for Jason's help.
I will blog about these parts when I install them.
We went to TST because Jason had to meet Jeanne Hartman.
But when we were standing on the MTR platform, I recoignized Sammy Leung standing next to us! I have met him and interviewed him before, and he remembered me. I was rather amazed to find him taking the MTR, but then again I was glad as it was a chance to talk with him. I love this town, because it can always surprise you.
Jason and I got out at TST and found Jeanne in an eyeglass shop with Berton Chang. While Jean was getting glasses, Jason, Berton and I talked and sucked up the free air conditioning.
We went to eat lunch/tea and talked about, of course, movies. They're my second favorite thing to talk about.
Five years ago, they would be third, but time marches on...
But I left them in TST because I was meeting D'in in North Point to go backto Tom Lee. The nature of the sale is that they are constantly putting out new stuff, so you could theoretically spend all day there for two weeks and constantly see new things.
Which I was tempted to do. Maybe next year.
There was indeed more new stuff there, and I bought some of it. A couple more pedals, to be precise. All I need now is a noise gate and a delay/echo pedal and my pedalboard will be complete... complete... complete.
There's no sense running reverb into the front end of an amp, but echo will work.
After North Point, D'in and I went to visit Anton Wong. I'd never met Anton before, but you put two strangers who love guitars in the same room and they'll leave friends.
If not for AnD, apparently I'd have spoken to absolutely no one yesterday. And that is most likely exactly what would have happened. Thank you AnD for saving me from my misanthropic self.
I got home late, but it's good for me because I have to stay awake all night tonight anyway. I'll be on a plane to Seoul, where I will have an ugly layover of at least 6 hours before going on to Chicago and Florida.
Yes, it's the All the Way There and Back tour; Hong Kong-Seoul-Chicago-Tampa-Ft. Lauderdale-Tampa-Hartford-Nashville-Chicago-Seoul-Hong Kong.
That's not counting the driving after I get to Hartford and before I get to Nashville.
I'm visiting family and friends.
I'll be buying socks and underwear and clothes and other stuff.
I'm buying granola bars for a friend.
Maybe even Flamin' Hot Cheetos, who knows?
I'm giving my nephew my 7-11 guitar. I hope he likes it.In 2.5 hours I need to leave my house. I am mostly packed. I am about to spend the next 24+ hours moving. I have books. I have clean underwear. I have that weird 'won voucher' thing I got in Korea in 2006 that I will try to cash when I am there.
Oh, and I knew this would happen - Remember I talked about the guitar I ordered when I called Warmoth just to buy pickups?
It shipped today.
But Rick will keep it safe for me so when I get back I will have a new baby to add to the collection.
I don't plan on adopting any new 'kids' in the US, but you never know.I'll try to blog while I am away. But if you don't hear from me for a while, its because I am bouncing around the East Coast of America like the over-wound jackass I so often am.
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
