I'm part of a Singaporean contingent performing at the Kunsten Arts Festival this year. Leaving Singapore May 17. Whoopee! It's a multi-media presentation collaboration with two film-makers, Ho Tzu Nyen and Fran Borgia entitled "The King Lear Project". If you download the event listings, you'll see a write up there.
If you're in Europe during 17 - 26 May 2008, come up to Brussels!
I was part of their second Lear exploration last year, entitled "The Avoidance of Love" and had a great time. It's a fabulous concept that is better understood seen rather than read - but in a nutshell, using actors performing Shakespeare's famous play King Lear, audiences are treated to an insight of how the reality/non-reality of actors on stage.
I know, sounds really "deep" right? actually, when viewed, it's not at all. their ingenious staging basically "traps" actors and reveals all the actors' habits and characters in often extremely humourous ways!
As an actor in this piece, you basically have to throw yourself into the process and accept the fact that you will never really know what the directors' agendas are until the day itself.
Rehearsals are minimal, to ensure that we all don't see too much, nor interact with each other too much. That's great! I'm looking forward to Spring/Summer in Brussels, eating some great chocolate and riding around on bicycles which the Festival organisers have gotten for us!
Whoopee!
