On Fuk Street BMX Park Open Now; Open for who?

Update: 20 Feb 2012, Click here to take survey about Hong Kong Skateparks

Another FAIL by LCSD?

OnFuk2

I came across this poster at Mei Foo Skatepark yesterday, possibly put up by the LCSD in response to the Headline news about the On Fuk BMX park that’s severely being under used.  ( Story about that at this link, in Chinese )

The poster says the Park is “Opening Now”, has enquiry phone numbers, the address & a map, & also a remark that says:

“Only for the holders of “Permit for using BMX Cycling Ground” issued by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department”

1-On Fuk1

First of all, the venue is a BMX / Skatepark, not simply a “BMX Cycling Ground”, the name “BMX Cycling Ground” itself can be misleading to the public with the word “ground” implying that the venue is just a flat ground cycling track of some sort.  In fact, it has the tallest Halfpipe & some quite extreme obstacles in any skatepark I have seen.

What the poster does not tell users is WHAT this permit is for, Where & how to get this permit, etc etc.

Ironically, the poster was put up in Lai Chi Kok Park Skateboard arena, whereby no permit is required for BMX riders to come & ride.   Not sure if this is a good incentive for users to travel over an hour with their BMX bike all the way to Fanling to ride a park that will not allow them to enter unless they have a permit that no one knows how to obtain.    Same story for the BMX Park in Po Kong Village near Diamond Hill, which is much closer to town.

Might as well stay in Lai Chi Kok Skatepark, which in my opinion is a much better designed & accessible BMX park than On Fuk Park, & oh yes, NO PERMIT is required.
