Race Preview – Porsche Carrera Cup Asia – Rounds 7 & 8 - Singapore GP

Things are heating up in sunny Singapore, for rounds 7 & 8 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the Marina Bay Circuit. The 5.073km street circuit was first set up in 2008, for the Formula 1, Porsche Carrera Cup, Formula BMW and Aston Martin Cup. The challenging circuit had a total of 23 turns, and Kimi Raikkonen holds the lap record from a 2008 lap in his Scuderia Ferrari. The Porsche Carrera Cup will be having two races during the Singpaore F1 GP weekend. The PCCA schedule will be as follows;

Friday 24th September -            1630-1700 – PCCA – Practice Session

Saturday 25th September -       1545-1600 – PCCA – Qualifying Session

Saturday 25th September -       1730 – 1805 – PCCA – Race 1

Sunday 26th September -         1700-1735 – PCCA – Race 2

Wimobilize McElrea Race Team, is getting geared up for their 2nd time running a car at the Singapore GP. The race team was also present for the 2009 installment of the Singapore Motorsport Weekend Bonanza, with Singaporean driver Yuey Tan, at the helm for both weekends. The newly founded team will be using the GP weekend to meet many of its regional partners, and business colleages. Wimobilize chief, Stephen Lee said, “It’s going to be a great event. We have partners coming in from Saudi, the Middle East, China and Australia. It will be busy, and fruitful I imagine. Even the hotel bookings have been a bit of a nightmare. Singapore is coming alive for the race weekend. This is obvious.” The New Zeland lead sister company, McElrea Racing on the Gold Coast will also be involved as usual. Like the other PCCA rounds during 2010, team boss, Andy McElrea will be leading the charge into the Singapore GP with Singaporean driver, Yuey Tan. McElrea will be arriving in Singapore on September 22nd.

“It will be a great weekend. People talk about that race meet, from all over the world. We are just lucky that we are in a good series that can get us a race here,” McElrea commented. “This is also a big weekend for our driver, Yuey Tan. It’s his home race so we will be focused on doing well.” Singaporean driver, Yuey Tan, will also be sporting a new racesuit and helmet, in the spirit of the Singapore GP. “A few sponsors are supporting us better now. And a cool helmet has been made. We’ll see it next weekend!” Tan also talked about the busy schedules heading into the Singapore GP Weekend. “It’s been a little crazy for everyone involved I think. The SMSA, STB, Porsche Carrera Cup, and all of the logistics guys, and contractors involved. People all seem pretty stressed out! We know from previous races at Marina Bay, that it is always worth it in the end.”
