Team Boss - Andy McElrea: Moving ahead with Wimobilize McElrea Racing

Team boss, Andy McElrea has been working with Wimobilize McElrea Racing over the last two years in Asia. The teams' involvement in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has been something of a revalation for dual Jim Clark trophy winner, Andy McElrea."The first time I came down to Asia two years ago, it blew my mind. Everything is so different here," McElrea commented. "I am getting used to it after two seasons with Yuey."During his time in Asia, the team boss has noticed the paradigm shift between the East and the West. "With what I've noticed in Asia, the economic growth is nothing short of spectacular. This is the same with motorsport. The sport is new, and the funds are availa ble in Asia."With the rapid growth in Asian Motorsport, McElrea Racing Team plan to devise a customisable plan, to continue with their driver development programmes for Asian drivers in 2011.Singaporean and McElrea driver, Yuey Tan, did all of his driver training in Australia, first starting in 2006 with the Porsche Driving School. From there, Tan completed the five levels of driver training including Cup Car training with Porsche.  "It was really a great thing to learn about motorsport in Australia. I still race there in the GT3 Cup Challenge for the reason that the sport is mature over there. Although the funds in their economy for motorsport are diverted mainly to the V8 Supercars, there are many disciplines of motorsport that are run extremely professionally over there. I have being privileged to learn in such a historic motorsport environment."The 2011 season will see the Wimobilize McElrea Team release driver training programmes for aspiring drivers in Singapore.
