Team News – McElrea Racing Australia – stronger than ever!

It was a mere 12 months ago since team boss, Andy McElrea and Singaporean driver, sat down to see what could be done to bring their two businesses together.

“We were looking at growing steadily, but what has happened over the last year has been great for us!” said McElrea. “A year ago, we were wondering whether specializing in motorsport and driver development was possible. I even had a furniture business. We had to shut that down recently due to time. Now we have got lots of interest, so this is good for us too. Asia is an emerging market and we’d like to learn more!”

Since the start of 2010, Tan and McElrea have been operating the McElrea Racing businesses in Singapore and Australia respectively.

“Motorsport is new in Asia,” explained Tan. “We know that we need to improve as fast as possible being Singapore based, which is not easy in the motorsport arena. Andy McElrea is one of the best Australia has got. So we went with him and no regrets!” Tan went on to continue by saying, “It is so important that we have this McElrea partnership with the Kiwi mates on the Gold Coast. They are a total solution and being associated with the best professionals in the game, only makes things easier for us to develop, as an Asian motorsport team. We have been lucky in development.”

McElrea Racing, Australia currently runs several racing cars for various clients. Cars currently run under  the McElrea banner include an Ascari, several Porsche GT3 Cup Cars, Lola Formula Cars, Mini Cups and the infamous Porsche 917. 

Andy McElrea was asked how he felt about this. “Yeah! It’s excellent. Sometimes I have a joke with my mates that this can’t be a lifetime of work. We have too much fun to call this work. Though it’s a serious business, and an even more serious sport.”
