Jun 22 - Team News - PORSCHE CARRERA CUP cancel Korea GPWhat started off as a rumour has strung truth in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Head of Porsche Carrera Cup, Korean German Christoph Choi has announced that the Korean round has been cancelled.“We have been up there and we think that there is a chance that they will not complete it in time,” the Porsche man said. This was a surprise announcement with the timing, considering that Korea has recently announced that the circuit is in the final stages of construction.“We are extremely pleased with the progress of the circuit, facilities, and preparations for the Korean Grand Prix,” KAVO chief executive officer Yung Cho Chung said. “Construction is on schedule for completion this summer, and we have encountered no obstacles whatsoever, either logistical or political.Porsche’s PCCA manager Choi went on to continue that alternative dates rest in August, and that Porsche Germany would like to see the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia start in Shanghai, and finish in Shanghai too.“Porsche Germany, and Porsche China have also made a strong request for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia to have its finale in China,” Choi said.It is no secret that everyone participating in the PCCA championship was looking forward to running on the Korean GP circuit for the first time upon its erection. The series has often been critized as China biased, as Porsche China uses the Carrera Cup as a massive marketing tool to sell more road cars in China.Prior to the cancellation, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia were due to run with Formula BMW and Asian GT3 under the AFOS banner on the same weekend. Interestingly enough, the cancellation of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has not prompted the cancellation of Formula BMW and Asian GT3. These 2 series plan to go and race in Korea as scheduled. The reason behind the decision to cancel the PCCA Korea round seems pre-mature though time will tell what the correct decision will be.
