WHAT DAY was March 11 2009?? YES! of course I know it was Wednesday yesterday. I mean what KIND OF A DAY it was or what is so phenomenal about March 11 2009? I slept around 6AM, i.e. this morning before waking up at 10AM. Btw, today is March 12th 2009. I attended the I SHOT HONG KONG film discussion last night (March 11th). Made some new friends there; a wonderful experience.
So, this is the story lined up with pictures and some videos. All these happened in less than 6 hours. Enjoy!! (laugh and cry with me)
This is Gigi, my new Syrian hamster with her temporary roommate RARI (from Ferrari). Watch her. :P My new Syrian hamsters are very funny when they are sleepy. do all Syrian hamsters do that? haha... Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJUyG-yH18Y&feature=channel_pageI think nobody would want to hear the original audio. I laughed like a witch... -_-" almost.... IT WAS SOOOO funny.
I just bought them yesterday (March 11th) so when I get back from the event, I had to do some basic house-keeping or hamster-keeping like BATHING them. I always bathe my new pets first hand after bringing them home from pet shops. You never know.... so it's best to MAKE SURE.
After I finished bathing them and making sure they were comfortable (yes, they fell asleep), hours had passed. I then moved on to my kids. Starting from the bottom cage. Mimmi and Xiu Guai. I noticed Mimmi's perculiar actions. Due to new arrangements, Cus Cus now lives on the second level. I noticed him doing the same peculiar motion. I have never seen any of my hamsters acting like that before. So, I took them out... and.... compared to once every 1.5 hours Ching Ling, he gets his first in less than 15 minutes. Of course it went on... Here is a glimpse of the end of his second round. Some how I managed to know and pressed "record" button just at the perfect timing.

Hamsters are not to be put together after m_ _ ing. The female will attack the male when she's done apparently as male hamsters tend to stretch stopping for REAL. I bought 4 hamsters yesterday. 2 syrians and another 2 dwarfs. The 2 dwarfs are not baby hamsters. THEY ARE BIG! HUGE! Xu Xu is nothing compared to them. The reason I bought a big male hamster is to get Xu Xu to kindly willing to mate with him. JUST as I thought, she became "a little woman" so we say in chinese when she sees such a HUGE male beside her. She shyly stand up and greet him....
the difference in size is amazing
Xu Xu is sooo shy.....
I almost thought I didn't know this little lady here...
So... I guess my decision to get her a bigger male was finally the right decision if I am to want her babies. I found BuBu (the larger male) with BoBo (another female hamster) at the pet shop. I was so delighted to see SUCH a big male. BoBo is huge too, bigger and fatter than Xu Xu. I was amazed to see how fat she was. I asked the store manager if it was pregnant. She said "NO! They've been here for 3 weeks and she stays about that size and I didn't catch them mating!". Wow... I was amazed at how fat BoBo is. I inquired why aren't the two mating and if that was possible. She gave me again the same answer as before. (Ching Ling stayed with Xu Xu for a month and nothing happened -_-"... so... i guess there are exceptions)
I decided to buy BuBu and spoke to it first hand that his job is to get my Xu Xu pregnant. The shop manager insisted that I have to get the pair because they came in a pair so I should not separate them, it depresses them so she said in the past. I didn't argue coz I WANT BuBu. I was just returning Mimmi and Cus Cus to their cages when I took a quick glance at BuBu and BoBo. What's that? My GOD! How could so many good things happen in a night? -_-"I looked at the clock. It was 03.49AM.
3rd part of the story:
I took out another new cage I had bought for Mimmi to prepare for Mimmi's babies arrival ( I had a feeling that she'd mate, just not so soon), hurriedly setting it up and separated Bo Bo from Bu Bu. Watched her last baby's birth delivery. This fat lady here is nothing like my Guai Guai. She basically NEGLECTED her babies. She had 2 surviving babies, the other 2 was dead when I found her. I was so worried I tended them till she got tired from scrapping the towel bedding (babies' skin is delicate) and throwing her babies around as she was scrapping the bottom of the cage. She left her babies there... JUST LIKET THAT... In the end,... she gave up... SO the above pictures were taken this morning (March 12th 10.30AM). Yes.. she still neglects the babies. I was thinking... why doesn't she eat her babies rather than just neglecting them like that? I don't want them to all die under my care. PLUS.. they are very very small... smaller than Guai Guai's babies despite her being big, fat and huge. Just can't emphasize it enough. 4 babies, all boys. NOW, I have 9 hamsters (XuXu, Cus Cus, Mimmi, Xiu Guai, Guai Yi, GiGi, Rari, BuBu and Bobo) + 2 new born babies AND Mimmi is PREGNANT,DUE in 3 weeks.
