Last Tuesday I stopped by the HKIFF's 'Filmart' business trade fair section briefly to check it out.
Filmart is a place where film buyers and distributors of existing or up coming films can go to meet eachother and make deals and also where projects for up coming films can find financing, etc. So its actually a cool way to see what's out and whats in the pipeline.
And its a testament to the rate at which this site is growing to say you couldn't walk more than 5 minutes without bumping into someone or something related to this site. Case in point:
Gordon Liu is about to kungfu Patrick Chow in the middle of the aisle while Scottie Hui looks on and laughs.
Stopped by the TIFF booth but my friend Mika san wasn't there.
This is one of Daniel's up and coming movies. They've finished filming, I wonder when its going to come out. Should be cool, Lau Ching Wan is a great actor.
I had heard about this from our news section, but I somehow hoped it wasn't true:
Yes, that is Jay Chou and yes the movie is actually called 'Panda Men' in both English and Chinese. Apparently they want to make a Chinese modern super-hero movie, which is not a bad idea, but why something so derivative (and silly)? click here for more...
There were a few 'PR' events going on at some of the bigger booths too. We happened on one:
That's Peter Lam, owner of East Asia Media showing the HK government's Financial Secretary touring through one of the exhibitions.
I didn't have time to really run through the whole thing. I also bumped into Gus Liem, Philip Ng and Mike Leeder where I was there... hopefully they all got a lot of useful business done too!
