A little addendum from last Thursday's trip to Macau for theCirque Du Soleil press conference.
The people organizing the sneak preview were nice enough to include ferry tickets with the chance to attend the press event. I am a loyal TurboJET patron, but since this one was free, I didn't mind taking the 'Cotai Strip' Ferry, which goes straight to the new ferry port in the Cotai section of Macau.
By the way, for those who don't know, ' Cotai' is the portmanteau name given to the reclaimed land between the islands of Coloane and Taipa that made up the southern part of Macau. Its the location of most of the construction of fancy new casinos, forming the 'Cotai Strip', which is aimed to rival the famed Las Vegas Strip.
The Cotai Strip Ferry was maybe a bit newer than most of the TurboJET boats I have been on, but pretty much the same functionally.
I was lucky enough to even land a seat in the 'VIP cabin' on the way over. Because none of the other AnD guys could go, it was just me and one of the trip organizers hanging out the whole way there.
Normally it takes about an hour to get to Macau from HK, but this morning the weather was absolutely horrible - heavy rains, wind and lighting.
So it took more like 75 minutes before we arrived. I couldn't take any pictures, but the new Cotai ferry immigration building is really bare bones -- basically just a bare metal and concrete warehouse. I'm not sure if its temporary or the permanent immigration location... BUT its right next to Macau airport and only a few minutes by bus to the Venetian.
After the press conference everyone got to enjoy a free buffet lunch at the Casino's 'Cafe Deco' restaurant -- unlike the typical Vegas buffet, this one was actually kind of high end. My friend あさみちゃん of enjoymacau.jp also attended the event so we enjoyed a nice meal together before I headed back to HK.
Since I had only had about 4 hours sleep the night before, I totally passed out on the ferry back. Two people called me on the phone and I managed to answer, but by the time I got off the boat in HK, I had already forgotten what they had told me. :-P
Anyway, it was a fun opportunity. I gotta figure out when my next Macau trip will be.
