There are as many kinds of love as there are beats of your heart. When you love someone, it isn't always the same love from moment to moment. Sometimes the love you give and the love you receive match or compliment each other, sometimes not. And I'm not just speaking about so-called romantic relationships here. Any type of relationship that is genuine is characterized by love--parent-child, friend to friend, colleague to colleague, stranger to stranger. Maybe you could think of love like H2O. Water is an ingredient in a lot of different compounds. Sometimes, it is obvious that water is involved, sometimes it is not obvious at all. But, nevertheless, water is part of them all. Love is like H2O in that sense. It can appear in so many different combinations, and yet it is always love, however it manifests. So, the short answer to your question: does love last forever? Yes, love is energy and energy is eternal. Does a relationship last forever? That is a different question altogether and I would have to say, no. Anything that is static is doomed to dissolution. But anything that is dynamic and can alter to accommodate the forces applied to it can endure. If we stop changing, love will dissolve. If we change and love does not, love will also dissolve. But it is important to see that love + love does not always equal a relationship. Sometimes you love someone for a week, a day, even a minute, and understand that for that duration, it is perfect and eternal. But then time starts up again and that perfect moment is past and that love leaves your life. If you are lucky, it is replaced by another, suited to the new moment. In rare instances, you and the one you love get to walk the same path for what appears to be a long time. I haven't yet finished with this life to have a hint at what might lie beyond in terms of love. I guess we all would like a glimpse of the beyond when we ponder this question.

Hmm I don't think just being in love is enough, still gotta work at it. Unfortunately hehe.

HHmmm to me, love is the chemistry that makes 2 people be together. And what can make them stay together (for a long time or the rest of their lives, depends...) would be mainly trust, understanding and compromises.There are few "spices" you can add but I guess this recipe is different for everybody.
