First, I'd like to wish a Happy Belated Birthday to Alive Not Dead. I wish I were in Hong Kong to attend the shin-dig, and I read and heard it was loads of fun. Hopefully, I'll be in HK next year when AnD turns two cuz you sure are growing fast!
Back in Singapore, I had a great time grabbing a drink and catching up with old friends from my days living in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Almost ten years ago, I was invited to become a VJ for MTV in Taiwan so that was the beginning of my life here in Asia. There was one small catch...I couldn't really speak Mandarin so I had to spend about nine months in language class to "pick up" the language. Sure enough, my Mandarin still wasn't great, but it was intriguing enough so the producers finally allowed me to get on television after about nine months. While I was learning Mandarin, I met my friend Hubert King...
...Fast Forward to present day and Hubert is now married to my ex-MTV VJ colleague, Stacy Hsu. The trippy thing is I actually introduced them to each other way back when I was in Taiwan. Several years back, they "reconnected" and got hitched along the way. To top it all off, they got married on my birthday several years back. It's been a while since I saw them both so it was great to see them once again.
Also in town this weekend was another former partner-in-crime from Hong Kong, Jimmy Wong...
...Back when I lived in Hong Kong, I remember seeing this dude shooting hoops near Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan. Of course, it turned out to be good ole Jimmy. We ended up playing a lot of ball and partying together during those days so it's great to see him in person. Jimmy recently set up a jewelry showroom in Causeway Bay called Justin Davis Jewelryfrom Japan. I hear it's doing really well and if you're interested, you can surf on over to the website at: http://www.justindavisjewelry.com
Now that he's not just an artist but also slapping on jewelry artist to his list of skillz, I need to remind him to get on AnD too!
If you happen to be in Singapore, don't forget to check out The Showdown on Channel 5 this Thursday night, May 15, at 8 PM. I'm pretty sure you'll get a good laugh with all the antics we pull off...or run into! If you aren't in Singapore, don't fret cuz I hear you can check out the wacky episode on the internet starting from the day after it airs. I'll try to get the web address for all of you needing a brainless show for a good laugh!
