Recognised in Asia for hosting all four seasons of US based Emmy award-winning reality show, The Amazing Race Asia. The amiable Chinese-American actor-host shares how he fit exercise into his dense packed schedule and stay in great shape.

3 words that best fit you?

Adventurous, Athletic, Hard-Working

Most people don’t know that…

I could not speak any language properly until Primary 3. My English and Chinese were both quite atrocious.

What is the next big thing in your career?

Harnessing my energy and redirecting my passion on a new career path away from entertainment and media that leverages off what I’ve accomplished in this industry throughout Asia.

What is the best thing about your job as an actor, host, and model?

I really enjoy the opportunity to travel to new places and work with new and interesting people all the time. Life is all about variety, and my job allows me to see and experience something new all the time.

The most embarrassing moment you’ve come across as host on TV?

I would have to say it’s needing to use the toilet when we’re filming live for The Amazing Race Asia and there’s a team on the pit stop mat… and also knowing there’s nowhere to go for miles!

I heard you are a big fan of challenge, what would be the next thing you’ll like to try other than hosting?

I always consider going to China as a big challenge because it has forced me to have to learn to do live hosting in Chinese, which is always never easy because I know everyone in the audience has better Chinese than me. This experience can be extremely daunting, but I enjoy the challenge and always try to do my very best.

How did your addiction for fitness come about?

At a young age, I’ve always been active and enjoyed being outdoors. I don’t see enough of that today in society because people have a lot more distractions and options. For me, this passion and addiction was honed from a young age, and I’ve learned to thrive and enjoy being fit and working out my entire life. Growing up, I always looked towards athletes and healthy people as an inspiration, and now it’s my turn to try to encompass these ideals for people, especially for my own children.

With all the travelling and work commitment, where do you get the time and motivation to squeeze in a workout?

Honestly, I sometimes actually need to take a “mandatory pit stop” when the travelling and work schedule becomes too crazy hectic. However, I then use this time off as motivation to work out even harder to get back in shape.  Of course, I always try to make time to do something each and every day so I don’t have to do too many intense “make up” workout sessions.

Do you have a workout regime that you follow religiously?

I wouldn’t go as far as to follow my workout regime “religiously”, but I will say that running has become the cornerstone of my workout to keep me toned, fit, and in shape.  I also supplement it with one or two weightlifting sessions per week depending on my schedule, and then I might swim once a week or play basketball.

Do you watch your diet?

When I was younger, I could eat whatever I want, whenever I want. Now, I do watch what I eat a bit more. I try not to consume too much at one sitting, and I do not eat late at night. Other than that, I still eat essentially anything I want. I just do it much more in moderation.

If you have to choose one body part, which do you find is the sexiest?

I used to think my dimples but then some would say my eyes or my abdominal region.

What do you think about women who workout?

I love it. Nothing sexier and hotter than seeing a fit and active woman in motion who knows how to take care of herself besides doing her hair, putting on makeup, and putting on clothes.

Any fitness advice?

Don’t ever sell yourself short. Believe in yourself because you are capable of accomplishing much more than you will ever imagine. And when you feel like quitting, just remember that the Pyramids weren’t built in one day. Work gradually towards your goals and be realistic about your results. Before you know it, you’ll be seeing improvement and gains that will keep you motivated towards your objectives.

Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?

Now, that is a good question.  With all that happening around me both personally and professionally, I can barely figure out where I’ll be three months from now. But to answer your question, I see myself spending more time back in Singapore while traveling to China and the US for work.

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview with us Allan. Do you have any motivational words for our readers?

If you are ready to truly believe it, then you can certainly achieve it! Now what are you waiting for?!
