I just can't seem to get enough of this new Singapore Flyer that just opened up this month. Earlier this week, I was invited to appear and host the unveiling of the new men's fragrance Davidoff Adventure. Now, when everyone thinks of Davidoff, most of us automatically think of Cool Water. I remember even sniffing this cologne on some of my prepubescent peers back in junior high school, and I think it's pretty incredible that this fragrance has really stood the test of time...and smells. Along with a stable of other fragrances, Davidoff just launched this new one with Ewan McGregor as its new "face." And you know this stuff better conjure up images of adventure for young Obi Wan Kenobi and that truly amazing motorcycle ride he did on his documentary " The Long Way Round."
Usually, these launches are quite standard, but this one was definitely more interesting in that all the invitees were taken up on the Singapore Flyer. Since I had already been on the Singapore Flyer at night, I was curious as to how the view would be during the day. We had a particularly rainy day, but we were all very fortunate that the rain momentarily abated as I hopped onto the attraction...twice. I even took some pictures so let's start with this shot of Marina Bay with the temporary site of the National Day Parade along with the "durian-looking" Esplanade Theater.
Everyone is anticipating the construction of "I.R." (Integrated Resorts) here in Singapore. With the huge success of The Venetian in Macau, a lot of investors (and gamblers) are hoping that this giant state-of-the-art resort will be as lucrative and attractive. Here is a shot of the construction site. This bad boy should have its doors supposedly open by 2009.
Here are some more aerial shots you can access from this new vantage point...
...and I was surprised with how much one can see in the daytime. Now, that I've been on this new ride both by day and night, I'd have to say that in the daytime right around sunset is the best time to experience this. At about $30 SGD a pop for an adult and $20 a pop for a child, you'd better make sure you make the most of this thirty-seven minute ride. A nighttime "flight" might be more appropriate if you happen to be on a date and just wanna soak in the romantic ambiance up high in the sky. ...as long as you don't mind possibly spending your capsule with up to twenty-four other random people. Of course, if you really wanna blow some dough and impress someone, then you can book one of these capsules for $1500 SGD!
So as the sun began to set and the rain was prepping up to pour down once again, I raced on home on my motorcycle. Probably something Ewan McGregor is quite familiar with during his motorcycle journey. Even though I inevitably got drenched, at least I arrived home with the fresh smell of "adventure" for the day!
