You Cannot Convince Me That Any of This Is Real

It is 8:45 in San Diego, and I check out of here at noon, then kill 5 hours before going to the airport and starting my 8,000 mile journey home. I arrive at 5:40 Thursday morning. It has been nice to breathe clean air and to eat American food, but I need to go 'home,' because this place has become irredeemably weird to me and I can't imagine living here any more.

The Ocean is Backwards...

But I made it San Diego, and in the process broke a 25-year record for Consecutive Hours Without Sleep Minus the Aid of Narcotics: 30.

I went shopping to stay awake, and it worked.

It's 5:30 AM, and I have already exercsed. Now I need to bathe and eat breakfast, then go to the conference, where I will meet up with people I haven't seen in5 years. I willl be in a suit, so they won't recognize me.

I apologize for being out of the loop for so long. I am leaving in a few hours for a business trip to San Diego, and so the last week has been a hellish nightmare of preparation, work, etc.

I am not looking forward to spending 5 days in a jet-lag induced torpor, especially because I am ostensibly supposed to be an intellectual and sound/look like something other than a dope-addled loon.

Alive in Class

Andrew, Terence and Conroy were kind enough to come to my Understanding Movies class yesterday and do a Q&A with my students.

I want to say THANK YOU to them for being so generous with their time and for allowing me to have a rare class where I felt like I gave my students a chance to reallysee into a film.

Not Guilty

Just wanted to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that I do in fact own a suit, and that I don't look horrible in it.

You can't really see how shiny it is, but I am waiting on more photos from that night that will illustrate it's sharkskin-like sheen. You can almost see yourself in it!
