If you are in London, PLEASE go support Hong Kong's own Killersoap in the World Battle of the Bands FINALS on Dec. 14 and 15 at Scala in London.
That's right, a Hong Kong band could win it all.
I have seen these guys perform locally, and they are really deserving of this chance. Their music has that very rare quality of making you want to hear it again because it sounds s...Read more
Was surfing today and saw this eye-grabber of a link:
Veterinarians reattach cat's face after accident with car fan belt Just the thought made me grab myownface. From the article:
BOSTON - Veterinarians on Tuesday performed an unusual surgery to reattach the face of a cat they believe was injured by a car's fan belt, probably because she tried to stay warm under the hood. No, it was probably because she's a cat from Boston and she'll do whatever the f@#$ she wants to do. You got a problem with that?

Someone needs (another) nap, but I thought maybe you missed me.
Life has been better, and life has been worse.
I have yet to wake up next to the girl of my dreams (meeting her would be a start), but I also have yet to wake up next to the man of my nightmares. So I guess it's not so bad.
Lately, I just haven't felt like writing anything. Which is dumb, because if there's one thing in life I can do without thinking, it's write.
Just look at some of my blog entries for proof of that little nugg...Read more
10-second Review: Nobody's Perfect / 絕代雙嬌Especially anyone evenremotely involved in the creation of this monstrosity. We all know I am a huge Wong Jing fan, so 'bad' movies are relative, but this was utterly unbearable in almost every way and I never thought 90 minutes could last so long.
But lest I be branded unfairly negative, I can say this about it: it ha...Read more
In Hong Kong, no one cares if you beat your meat.
But if you choke your chicken, you're going to jail.
It is 8:45 in San Diego, and I check out of here at noon, then kill 5 hours before going to the airport and starting my 8,000 mile journey home. I arrive at 5:40 Thursday morning. It has been nice to breathe clean air and to eat American food, but I need to go 'home,' because this place has become irredeemably weird to me and I can't imagine living here any more.
But I will say that San Diego is the first part of Caifornia I have ever been to that I might miss of the whole rotten ...Read more
Here on the Left Coast.
But I made it San Diego, and in the process broke a 25-year record for Consecutive Hours Without Sleep Minus the Aid of Narcotics: 30.
I went shopping to stay awake, and it worked.
It's 5:30 AM, and I have already exercsed. Now I need to bathe and eat breakfast, then go to the conference, where I will meet up with people I haven't seen in5 years. I willl be in a suit, so they won't recognize me.
Here's hoping I make it untill at least 9 pm before falling into a ...Read more
I apologize for being out of the loop for so long. I am leaving in a few hours for a business trip to San Diego, and so the last week has been a hellish nightmare of preparation, work, etc.
I am not looking forward to spending 5 days in a jet-lag induced torpor, especially because I am ostensibly supposed to be an intellectual and sound/look like something other than a dope-addled loon.
At least I will be wearing the suit.
Still, I find it quite embarrassing to nod off during people's presentations, or to...Read more
Andrew, Terence and Conroy were kind enough to come to my Understanding Movies class yesterday and do a Q&A with my students.
I want to say THANK YOU to them for being so generous with their time and for allowing me to have a rare class where I felt like I gave my students a chance to reallysee into a film.
The students all told me afterward that they really enjoyed The Heavenly Kings (which I screened before the Q&A) and being able to listen to Andrew, Terence and Conroy. I asked them why they didn't ask many q...Read more
If we don't support the movies that deserve it, we get the movies that we deserve.
