another Korean DVD review... with the imaginative (not particularly) and fitting (definitely no logic here) title of 'Mr. Wacky' (생, 날선생)
i guess this would be classified as a romantic comedy. Basic premise - a teacher who retired after winning the lottery is disappointe...Read more
Another one off the pile of Korean DVDs - its hard to describe this movie other than to say 'a coming of age story' + 'violent high school'. In 1978 Korea, a teenager transfers to a tough, all boys academy and quickly has to deal with the school hierarchy of gangs and bullies. The main character ultimately finds that Jeet Kun Do (or at least...Read more
Its like a Japanese Sherlock Holmes...
This film was released in HK a few months back but I didn't get a chance to watch it. I caught it on the plane... its actually pretty good. The main guy is a slightly eccentric physics professor who helps the police solve crimes on occasion (i'm assuming this is from a TV show or manga like all these other Japanese movies I see...Read more
Interesting late night photos taken during last weekend's trip to Fukuoka...
深夜の福岡で撮ったの写真。
damn, someone plastered this city with these stickers!?
As I have been spending a lot of time working on the adidas originals profile on alivenotdead.com, I was really looking forward to this party.
They had a big party w/ the roof and top two or three floors of 'The Factory' in far away Wong Chuk Hang (actually not that far, just a bit out of the way). I knew it was going to be big and expensive, and that there would be a LOT of people trying to fight to get in, but I wasn't quite ready for what I faced ...Read more
Have you guys noticed that there are two spellings for Macau? Depending on what language you're speaking. I had assumed "Macao" was Portuguese and "Macau" was the English spelling, but according to Wikipedia the spelling in Portuguese is Macau too, but its Macao in Italian and Spanish and several other languages. But for some reason the Casinos use 'Macao' in their names (ie its the "Venetian Macao" not "Venetian Macau").
I try to make sure...Read more
the other day when i was in Shenzhen i decided to look for an external battery pack for my iPhone 3G. On days where I'm out all day listening to music, watching video and surfing online (like days when I go biking for example), the iPhone's battery is just not enough.
I think if you do continuous surfing in 3G mode, you can probably completely suck the battery dry in an hour or two. I made the observation before that I don't think its possible for me to use up all 500mb of my monthly ...Read more
Long time etchy blog readers may remember that last year when the whole Edison Chen Sex Photos scandal (陳冠希淫照) erupted across the HK press (and the entire internet), a few of my blog postings on the subject garnered a LOT of views... like tens of thousands of views. (behold the power of SEO... and the power of people searching for p0rn!)
I've been pretty behind in my blogging, but in this case, I'll make an exception and post up one a bit early. Last night on my way back from China (after biking of course). I stopped by TST to join Winnie Leung's birthday party (I think she's turning 19). ;-)
It was a lot of fun, a lot of new people to meet. What I like is that Winnie's circle of friends is significantly different from the 'usual suspects' at a lot of our get togethers ( so it wa...Read more
Last saturday we co-hosted a party at the Hotel Panorama in TST. They'd just launched a new DJ booth in the bar and they wanted to attract a big crowd to get the word out about the place. They also got our pal MC Jin to perform. A wise choice!
For those who don't know this yet - MC Jin has a real great 'stage presence', he knows how to work a crowd and keep things fun. Even when...Read more
