Few people know that I’ve wanted to act since I was 10 years old. It was the year 1993, and I was watching “Star Search Singapore” > when I was inspired & realised that I would really like to perform like one of those actors onscreen. But shy as I was, I never blossomed & stepped out of my shell as a child.
Fast forward to 2006. I finally plucked up the courage to enrol myself in Lasalle College & learn the foundation of Theatre Arts, experiencing Acting, Movement, Dance, Voice & Play Analysis...Read more
“CUBIK” has been a long time in the brewing.
Stefan Fanthome, co-producer, & Jason Brenizer, producer-director, worked on a “crazy idea”for six months, writing & re-writing a scrīpt, as well as working on pre-production logistics & preparations...Read more
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen i...Read more
Some of you may have seen the adverts for “With You, 1000 Miles” or > recently on Channel 8. Haven’t got the chance to catch it yet – maybe I should plant myself in front of the TV set, but I rarely have time nowadays – but it is a brand new doc-reality format programme that will pick a pair of participants to go on an all-expenses-paid journey of 1000 miles.
I’m happy & grateful that one of my favourite projects to date, “CUBIK”, has made it to 2 other film festivals in the USA. Previously, CUBIK won the Grand Remi Award – Best of Show at the Worldfest – Houston Int’l Film Festival, an award that great directors such as Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee & George Lucas have won before.
Haven’t updated this space for quite some time. Just recovered from a terrible bout of sorethroat & flu, which came almost right after a life-changing Asia Conference, and now I’ve finally mustered the motivation to sit down & blog.
It’s been quiet on the work-front for me. Attended a few castings despite my illness, and was involved in an interesting project last week – a Science Centre video for a Bioethics Exhibit. The video we did will be at the Singapore Science Centre for at least the next 5 years.
Once in awhile, we get the opportunity to give a little piece of heaven to those around us. Rather than live in our individual tiny bubbles, it’s a chance to step out & do our part for society. Join us & enjoy an evening of Art & Music, while doing good at the same t...Read more
To me, acting is not a matter of pretending, but rather of being. But it’s a skill that every actor should work on continuously & consciously. No matter how much talent, or potential, you have as an actor, it is a muscle that must keep undergoing workouts, in order to be sharp & strong.
Learning on the job is not enough. It takes constant effort to practice outside of the work environment, in our own time & space. Discipline. Something which I need more of. I need that spark which captures the audience’s atte...Read more
The 48 Hour Film Project recently wrapped in Singapore over the weekend of Apr 30 – May 2, 2010.
Even though I wasn’t able to be a part of it, because I was overseas, a few Word actors got together to form a team for the Project. Word of the Actor is a scene work group which I lead. We meet once a week to work on scenes with different invited directors, and this helps to keep our acting & directing muscles alive & kicking! And it truly worked for all these actors involved in the Film Project.
Team WORD – w...Read more
